The government of Tamil Nadu, led by Prime Minister MK Stalin, has planned to invite short-term global tenders for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate all those aged 18 to 44 to control the spread of the infection in the state be taken.
The meeting was chaired by Stalin and senior ministers such as Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Ramachandran KKSSR, Industry Minister Thangamtennarasu, Health Minister MA Subramanian, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan and other high-ranking state officials.
The state government underlines that the need of the hour is to vaccinate beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group and plans to achieve this in the short term. The state has currently been allocated 13 lakh vaccine doses, which is insufficient to vaccinate this age category.

In a tweet, Stalin said he and other opposition leaders wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who calls on him to procure vaccines centrally from all available sources in order, among other things, to start a free universal vaccination.

TN registered a one-day increase of 30,355 new Covid cases
There has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in the state. On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu hit a daily high of 30,355 new cases of the virus and the state is facing a crisis over the availability of remedisvir injections, hospital beds and medical oxygen.
The prime minister has also ordered additional oxygen production facilities to be set up in the state to meet rising demand.

Previously, Stalin had urged the Prime Minister to increase the distribution of oxygen to Tamil Nadu. In response to this request, the oxygen allocation for the state was increased from 280 tons to 419 tons. However, the state government has said it is inadequate and needs more care, the statement said.
In order to meet this demand, the Ministry of Industry, Medicine and the Common Welfare was asked to immediately set up adequate oxygen production facilities and take the necessary steps to bring oxygen to Tamil Nadu by trains from other states, thereby distributing oxygen to hospitals in need .
All parties will meet tomorrow to discuss coping with the Covid crisis
In the meantime, Stalin will chair a meeting with all legislature party leaders tomorrow at 5 p.m. to discuss the Covid-19 crisis and its treatment.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), then the opposition party before the elections to the state assembly, had called for an all-party meeting to be convened by then Prime Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. However, this proposal was rejected by the then AIADMK government.
