All seven passengers on board an aircraft, including Tarzan actor Joe Lara and his diet guru wife, are believed to be dead after a crash in a lake near the US city of Nashville.

The small business jet crashed around 11:00 a.m. local time on Saturday shortly after taking off from Smyrna, Tennessee Airport for Palm Beach, Florida, Rutherford County Fire & Rescue (RCFR) shared on Facebook.

The plane landed in Percy Priest Lake, about 12 miles south of Nashville.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed there were seven people on the plane, CNN reported.

On Saturday evening, operations had switched from search and rescue to recovery efforts, the commander of the RCFR incident, Captain Joshua Sanders, told a press conference.

“We’re not trying to find any living victims at this point and are now recovering as much as possible from the crash site,” he said.

On Sunday afternoon, RCFR announced on Facebook that salvage work had found “several components of the aircraft as well as human remains” in an approximately 800 m wide field of rubble.

Operations would continue until dark and resume Monday morning, RCFR wrote.

Lara played Tarzan in the 1989 TV movie “Tarzan in Manhattan”. He later played in the television series “Tarzan: The Epic Adventures”, which ran from 1996 to 1997.

His wife, Gwen Shamblin Lara, whom he married in 2018, was the leader of a Christian weight loss group called Weigh Down Ministries. She founded the group in 1986 and 1999, the Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood, Tennessee.

She has two children from a previous marriage, according to a statement on the Church’s website.
