The central government had included the treatment of Covid-19 in the “Ayushman Bharat Yojana” at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The “Ayushman Bharat” is also known as the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana”. Over time, while India was still battling the first wave of the pandemic, some state governments expanded the scope of this program from providing oxygen to covering the cost of essential drugs used to treat Covid-19.
Ayushman Bharat is the central government’s flagship for poor people.
Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, 10 million poor families, disadvantaged and weaker parts of the country receive health insurance. Under this system, these families, 50 million people, receive health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. However, in order to benefit from the program, you must have certain qualifications. They are the following:
In rural areas, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana program can only be used by people who have a Kuccha house, no adult (16-59 years) in the family, the head of the family, a disabled person in the family, the family is from SC / ST, landless, day laborer, homeless, tribal and destitute.

According to a March 2020 circular, treatment and testing for Covid-19 will be provided free of charge in any of the private hospitals set up for the program.
Private hospitals have also been set up together with state hospitals under this program. This insurance system covers almost all types of diseases such as cancer surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, cardiac surgery, neuro (brain) surgery, spine surgery, dental surgery, eye surgery and special tests such as MRI and CT scans.
