Tested positive for Covid-19? Here’s how you can benefit from Ayushman Bharat Yojana for treatment

The central government had included the treatment of Covid-19 in the “Ayushman Bharat Yojana” at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The “Ayushman Bharat” is also known as the “Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana”. Over time, while India was still battling the first wave of the pandemic, some state governments expanded the scope of this program from providing oxygen to covering the cost of essential drugs used to treat Covid-19.

Ayushman Bharat is the central government’s flagship for poor people.

Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, 10 million poor families, disadvantaged and weaker parts of the country receive health insurance. Under this system, these families, 50 million people, receive health insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. However, in order to benefit from the program, you must have certain qualifications. They are the following:

In rural areas, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana program can only be used by people who have a Kuccha house, no adult (16-59 years) in the family, the head of the family, a disabled person in the family, the family is from SC / ST, landless, day laborer, homeless, tribal and destitute.

In urban areas, beggars, garbage collectors, maids who earn from housework, street vendors, street vendors, plumbers, bricklayers, laborers, painters, welders, security guards, porters, sweepers, drivers, rickshaw drivers, or people who work in a shop can use the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

According to a March 2020 circular, treatment and testing for Covid-19 will be provided free of charge in any of the private hospitals set up for the program.

Private hospitals have also been set up together with state hospitals under this program. This insurance system covers almost all types of diseases such as cancer surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, cardiac surgery, neuro (brain) surgery, spine surgery, dental surgery, eye surgery and special tests such as MRI and CT scans.

Infections such as the common cold and fever are not included in the Ayushman Bharat program. Now that the symptoms of a Covid-19 infection are similar to those of a cold, can Covid-19 be treated under the scheme?

Symptoms of Covid-19 include a cold, cough, or fever detected by the RT-PCR tests. However, in order to take advantage of the Ayushman Bharat program, a person must be hospitalized for at least a day. So if you are positive about Covid-19 and have been hospitalized, you can still benefit from the system. But are you eligible to apply for the program?

The eligibility criteria for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana can be checked online at www.pmjay.gov.in or by phone on the hotline numbers 14555 and 1800111565.

If you are eligible, you will receive treatment for Covid-19 in the private hospitals affiliated with Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The quarantine in a private hospital is also insured.

While the poor can be treated for free in the state hospitals, the aim of the program has also been to add private hospitals. You can find out which hospital near you is linked to Ayushman Bharat Yojana by checking online or by calling the helpline numbers.

After knowing your eligibility and the hospital associated with Ayushman Bharat Yojana, you will be helped by an “Ayushman Mitra or Arogya Mitra” in that hospital. “Ayushman Mitra or Arogya Mitra” will help you to be admitted to the hospital.

In order to receive benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the authorized person must prove their eligibility by e-card. He has to show some documents like an Aadhaar card, a voter’s ID or a grocery card.

Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, treatment and medication are available free of charge up to three days before and 15 days after the hospital stay. A total of 1,393 packages have been added to the program, which also covers the intensive care unit, laboratory tests, hospital stays, food costs, etc. in the hospital.
