TN polls: Actor Kamal Haasan defeated by BJP Mahila Morcha president in Coimbatore South


By doing Election to the assembly of Tamil NaduMakkal actor and leader Needhi Maiam Kamal Haasan was defeated in Coimbatore South constituency by BJP Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan.

The exciting fight took place between Haasan, Srinivasan and Mayura Jayakumar from Congress.

While the outcome was more or less clear in constituencies like Kolathur, Edappadi and Chepauk on the day of the census at 1pm, the situation in Coimbatore South was different. In the 26 counting rounds, all three candidates appeared to be at the top at some point.

Haasan was in the lead up to the 22nd lap. But from the next round the counting began to lean in Srinivasan’s favor. She won by a margin of 1,728 votes.

While Haasan received 51,481 votes, Srinivasan received 53,209 votes in the constituency.

After the victory, Srinivasan thanked everyone who voted for her and asked her well-wishers to avoid partying during the pandemic. She asked them to use the same energy in helping those who need help during these times.

Haasan stayed at the GCT College Counting Center in Coimbatore throughout the counting process.

Campaign battle

Haasan had promised to bring about change during his campaign for the Coimbatore South headquarters.

On the other hand, 51-year-old Srinivasan stated during her election campaign that she was born in a small village, studied at a state school, became a lawyer, married with two children and her image as the daughter of the earth.

In the run-up to the elections, Haasan had called his opponent Srinivasan a “Thukkada” politician (small-time politician).

Outraged by the comment, she had answered by saying that Haasan had only paid lip service that alluded to kissing scenes in the actor’s films.
