Tripura West DM suspended over viral video of him stopping wedding midway citing Covid norms


Tripura District Judge (West) Sailesh Kumar Jadav has been suspended by the state government. The order for his suspension comes days after a Video of Yadav stopping a wedding halfway In order to enforce the Covid-19 norms, it became widespread on social media.

Earlier this week, DM Sailesh Kumar Yadav appeared before a committee to explain his actions. The body, consisting of two high-ranking IAS officers, was formed under the leadership of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

“It is my duty to enforce law and order and prevent the spread of Covid-19. I stand by everything I did that night,” Yadav told the committee.

A number of BJP leaders, including MLA Asish Saha and Sushanta Chowdhury, had written to Tripura Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar demand Yadav’s removal.

Pratima Bhowmik, the BJP MP from West Tripura District, even told the media that she would speak to the bride’s family in person.

What led to the suspension of Tripura West DM?

A video of Tripura West District Magistrate Sailesh Kumar Yadav stopping a wedding ceremony midway has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred in Agartala at a wedding venue of Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, chairman of the Tripura Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance.

The video shows Yadav telling the bride, groom, their families and guests to leave immediately. He even directed police officers to evict guests from the venue and pointed to violations of Covid-19 norms.

When Yadav got the wedding permit issued by his office, he was seen tearing up the permit.

The next day he told the media: “I apologize if someone or a group is tormented by last night’s action. But what was done last night was only for the good of the people. My goal was not to anyone to hurt or humiliate. ” “”
