According to the government, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana were among the 18 states and union territories that had a persistent plateau or decrease in new Covid-19 cases every day.
At a press conference, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Health Lav Agarwal said that Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Punjab, Assam, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Tripura are among the 16 states and union areas showing a steady increase in trend new Covid-19 cases every day.
The number of districts with a weekly increase in weekly tests and a decrease in positivity rate increased from 73 (April 15-21) to 182 (April 29-5).
Thirteen states each have more than 1 lakh active Covid-19 cases and 26 states have a positivity rate of over 15 percent, the government said.
India recorded 3,48,421 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours on Wednesday, along with 4,205 deaths, the highest daily number to date. Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported the highest cases again one day after Karnataka.
