The Delhi police on Monday issued a circular (Look-out-Circular, LoC) against two-time Olympic champion Sushil Kumar, who is fleeing after the murder of a 23-year-old former national junior champion at Chhatrasal Stadium in north-west Delhi.
Sagar Dhankad was beaten to death during a brawl in the stadium parking lot. A FIR has been registered against Kumar for murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.
It was learned that Sushil went to Haridwar and then to Rishikesh after the incident. He stayed in an ashram in Haridwar. He later returned to Delhi and is now consistently changing his location in Haryana.
The victims alleged that Sushil Kumar was present at the location where the incident occurred. The victims in their testimony have added that Sushil and his staff abducted Sagar from his Model Town home to teach him a lesson on how to mouth him badly in front of other wrestlers, police said.
According to police, the brawl between Kumar, Ajay, Prince, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others took place in the parking lot. Police then registered a case under relevant sections of India’s Criminal Code (IPC) and the Gun Act at the related Model Town Police Station, a statement said.
“The crime scene and all five vehicles were inspected. During the inspection, a double-barreled weapon with five live cartridges was found in a scorpion and two wooden sticks were also recovered from the site.
“All five vehicles and assault weapons were confiscated. The crime scene was further inspected by FSL forensic expert Rohini,” said Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, additional deputy police commissioner (Northwest).
During the investigation, information about Sagar’s death and Sonu’s injury was obtained from the Trauma Center, Civil Lines, and Sections 302, 365, 120B of the IPC were registered, he said.
