At least 12 people have died and over 5 are missing after a fire broke out in a water purification factory in the Pirangut industrial area in Punes Ghotawade Phata.

The fire broke out in the chemical packaging department of the water purification chemical factory in Pirangut in Mulshi Taluka.

There were 37 workers in the factory, according to Photfode, a fire department official. The officers recovered 12 bodies while 5 people have still not been tracked.

Photfode added that five teams were on hand to rescue those trapped in the factory and bring the fire under control.

He added that the fire was now under control and the cooling process was underway.
