Anil Deshmukh’s aides Kundan Shinde, Sanjeev Palande sent to ED custody till July 1

Two close associates of former Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh were detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until July 1 on Saturday. Deshmukh and his aides – Kundan Shinde and Sanjeev Palande – face an investigation into a multi-crore bribery and extortion money allegedly operating during his tenure as the state’s interior minister.

The ED had arrested Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shine late Friday night afterwards Raids them and Deshmukh in Mumbai and Nagpur.

Sanjeev Palande is Anil Deshmukh’s personal secretary while Kundan Shine is his personal assistant.

The duo filed a plea for their attorney to be present during the ED’s interrogation. You have requested that the lawyer be within an audible distance from the interrogation point in a visible area.

ED calls to ANIL DESHMUKH

Meanwhile, the headquarters Investigative authorities have summoned Anil Deshmukh for questioning on Saturday. In addition to the allegations of bribery and extortion, he is also accused of money laundering.

The ED case against Anil Deshmukh and others was exposed after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) first conducted a preliminary investigation, followed by a regular lawsuit filed by order of the Bombay High Court.

The court had asked the CBI to investigate the allegations of bribery against Anil Deshmukh, which the former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, in his Letter dated March 20 to the Prime Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray.

Anil Deshmukh had appealed to the Supreme Court, which refused to overturn it. Amid the investigation and public outrage over his alleged involvement in extortion and bribery, Anil Deshmukh resigned as Minister of the Interior.

However, he has denied any wrongdoing.

In his letter, Param Bir Singh claimed that Anil Deshmukh had asked former Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze (then on duty) to collect Rs 100 crore every month for him through blackmail. He had also accused him of meddling in police investigations, particularly those involving high profile cases such as the death of Dadra & Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha MP Mohan Delkar.

The Enforcement Directorate has claimed that nearly 10 bar owners in Mumbai recorded statements before claiming that they had paid roughly Rs 4 crore as a “bribe” paid in cash over a period of three months. The amount is said to be handed over to Anil Deshmukh by police officers.
