Ayodhya land deal: The inside story of the controversial land agreements | Investigation


In Ayodhya, construction work on the Ram Temple has been going on for several months. Some opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, including the SP and AAP, have recently leveled allegations in connection with the land purchase. An Aaj Tak-India Today team traveled to Ayodhya to investigate the matter and find out the reality.

Shriram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has bought the land for Rs 2.5 crore in the Kot Ramchandar area, about 300 meters from the Ram Temple construction site. The opposition has also made allegations about this country. Land registry papers available from Aaj Tak state that Ayodhya Mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay’s nephew, Deepnarayan Upadhyay, bought this land from Devendra Prasad Acharya for Rs 20 lakh and sold it to the Trust for Rs 2.5 crore.

Aaj Tak’s investigation has revealed that it is government land and it cannot be sold until it is owned. Ayodhya’s sub-registrar SB Singh was taped on camera saying that Naziolland was government land and could not be sold until owned. He said it was the buyer’s responsibility to inquire before registering the property. He said you can own it but not sell it. The question is: how and why did the trust buy the disputed land? SB Singh said that only the Trust can answer this. “We keep registers because we get postage income,” he said.

Ayodhya Mahant Devendra Prasad Acharya said he sold the land for Rs 20 lakh and was unaware that three months later it was sold to the Trust for Rs 2.5 crore.

WHO WAS EVERYONE PARTICIPATING IN THE SALE OF THE PROPERTY?

In addition to the nephew of the Mayor of Ayodhya, Rishikesh Upadhyay, Deepnarayan Upadhyay, another close relative, Ravi Tiwari, is involved in the sale of the land. Both the opposition and Ayodhya Mahant Devendra Prasad Acharya have raised questions. However, the mayor refused to speak to Aaj Tak.

On February 25, 2009, he opened a company called Saket Goat Farming in Faizabad. Seven years later he fled with the investors’ money. He has been charged with fraud in various counties. His property was seized, but he could not be arrested. He used the money for land deals. This was confirmed by Ayodhya’s sub-registrar SB Singh.

ANOTHER CONNECTION

Sultan Ansari’s name appeared on the land deal question. His father Irfan Ansari knew Haridas and supported him during the Saket Goat Farming Days. In 2011, Haridas and Irfan were involved in a controversial land contract worth Rs 1 crore. It was registered in 2017. In 2019 it went to nine people, including Sultan Ansari, for 2 billion rupees. It was sold to the Trust on March 18, 2021. With this money, Sultan Ansari and Ravi Tiwari bought a controversial land for Rs 11 crore, one kilometer from the temple complex.
