‘Beard cut off, forced to chant Jai Shri Ram’, claims elderly Muslim man in viral video; police deny allegations

In a video on social media, an elderly Muslim man accused four men of beating him, cutting his beard and asking him to sing “Jai Shri Ram” in the Loni area of Ghaziabad.

Ghaziabad police said they had already registered an FIR and arrested a man, Parvesh Gurjar, for his involvement in this alleged June 5 incident, which was reported to police two days later.

However, the senior superintendent of Ghaziabad police, Amit Pathak, said the victim, Abdul Samad, a resident of Bulandshahr, had been in his FIR on the 7th of two days.

“How is it that he makes new allegations on June 14th?” Pathak asked, suspecting that someone else had instigated him to make new allegations.

Ghaziabad (rural) SP Iraj Raja said Gurjar was arrested a few days after the incident for his role in another criminal case, but he was also implicated in the beating of Samad, so he was arrested in this case too.

Raja said the motive for Gurjar and his staff beating Samad was a dispute between the two of them over the purchase of an amulet.

Samad also practiced the occult and had sold an amulet to Gurjar, allegedly to rid one of his family members of an “evil effect”, but a dispute broke out between the two because the amulet was not wanted, Raja said.

After Gurjar’s arrest, the police repeatedly summoned Samad to investigate, but he never came to the police, the SSP said, adding that he was also summoned for Monday but does not have to appear yet.

Meanwhile, who shows his injuries in the video, Samad said he was abducted from the Gokulpuri area while taking a car for Loni in Ghaziabad.

The auto rickshaw already had two people in it when he rented it, while two more got in a little further up, Samad said in the video, adding that the four suddenly pounced on him in the car, covered his head with a piece of cloth, and started to hit him up.

“They eventually drove me to a remote house in a field in the village of Behta Hazipur, Loni, where they continued to beat me while they asked me to sing Jai Shri Ram,” claimed Samad in the video.

“Every time I cried in pain and said Allah, they beat me up again and asked me to sing Jai Shri Ram instead,” Samad said.

“They even cut my beard and called me a Pakistani spy,” he said.
