Uttar Pradesh police suspended a SHO and three other police officers in Unnao after a photo went viral of some police officers using a plastic stool and wicker basket as protective gear while dealing with a riotous mob.
IG Lucknow Range Lakshmi Singh took note of the viral picture and ordered the suspension of SHO Dinesh Chandra Mishra and three other police officers for negligence, incompetence and unprofessionalism.
In a tweet, UP police said, “All districts were given a sophisticated SOP and adequate riot gear to deal with any law-and-order situation. for which the DGP has asked the SP for explanations, and at the local level the SHO has been suspended. “

The viral image
The action comes after the Uttar Pradesh police were criticized for allegedly failing to provide their personnel who were used to monitor the legal and order situation on the spot with sufficient protective equipment.
It was the job of the cops in Unnao to control an angry mob that was throwing stones at them.
On the matter, SP (Unnao) Anand Kulkarni said that two people were killed in a traffic accident in the village of Devi Kheda and their bodies were taken for autopsy.
“However, under the pretext of cremating the bodies, some people took them to the scene of the accident and kept them on the street. Soon after, villagers gathered and began to protest they were returning home, “he said.
However, the SP said people refused to leave the place and meanwhile some people started throwing stones at the police.
“The necessary force was used to disperse the crowd. More than 40 people have been arrested. Cases have been filed and tough measures are being taken against them,” he said.
