Covid-19 unlock: States announce more lockdown relaxations as virus cases continue to dip | Roundup


With a significant drop in Covid-19 cases, many states across India have eased restrictions related to Covid. However, in view of the risk of a third Covid-19 wave, which is emerging with the discovery of the Delta Plus variant, many state governments continue to impose strict curfews in places with a high number of cases.

Here are the latest Covid-related updates in various states across India.

Delhi

In further easing, the Delhi government allowed restaurants and bars in the city to have up to 50 percent of seating capacity on Sunday. The restaurants and bars can now remain open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. respectively.

However, restrictions remain on some activities and services, including cinemas, gyms, and spas, which will be closed until 5 a.m. on June 28th.

All shops, markets and shopping centers were allowed to reopen without restrictions last week.

Uttar Pradesh

The government of Uttar Pradesh has eased restrictions in the state with the exception of the Covid containment zones. The government has allowed all shopping malls and restaurants to open with 50 percent capacity on weekdays until 9 p.m. It also allowed stores and markets outside the security zones to be open five days a week.

However, the nightly curfew still applies from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. In addition, a weekend exit ban is imposed in all districts.

Various activities, including the opening of markets outside the security zones, full presence in government offices, the opening of restaurants with a capacity of 50 percent and shopping malls are allowed. During weddings and other events, a maximum of 50 people are allowed in both open and closed locations and only 50 people are allowed in a religious location at a time, the guidelines state.

Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand government on Sunday extended the state’s Covid-19 curfew until June 29, but allowed hotels, restaurants and bars to open at half their capacity.

Shops are allowed to open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Government offices as well as private offices can work with 50 percent staff. Offices for basic services can be opened at full capacity. Hotels, bars and restaurants are also allowed to open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with 50 percent seats.

In another important decision, the state government confirmed that the Char Dham Yatra will begin in stages. The yatra will be open to locals starting July 1 and to people from the rest of the state starting July 11. RT-PCR test negative report or antigen testing are mandatory for the Char Dham Yatra.

Haryana

The government of Haryana has extended the nationwide lockdown to June 28. In terms of easing, the state government has allowed 50 people to attend weddings / funerals and full attendance for corporate offices.

Clubhouses, restaurants, bars on golf courses are allowed to open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with 50 percent seating capacity. Restaurants and bars, including in hotels and shopping centers, are allowed to open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with 50 percent seating capacity.

Shops in markets can be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shopping centers can be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tamil Nadu

The lockdown in Tamil Nadu has been extended to June 28. The state government has divided the districts into three levels based on their number of active Covid-19 cases. The Covid-related restrictions will be maximum in 11 counties in Tier-1 with the highest number of cases. The districts in the other two tiers will have looser restrictions.

In Tier 3 districts, all government offices can have 100 percent staff, while private companies can have 50 percent of their workforce. Public transport is allowed to operate at 50 percent load, while Chennai subways are allowed to operate with a seat limit of 50 percent.

Marriages and related ceremonies are permitted in Tier 1 and Tier 2 districts with a maximum gathering of 50 people and only after receiving electronic registration.

Telangana

The Telangana government lifted the state’s Covid-19 lockdown entirely on June 19. The government has directed the Ministry of Education to begin preparations for the reopening of all categories of educational institutions from July 1st. Students can now physically attend classes.

Jammu and Kashmir

J & K’s state executive committee announced the lifting of the curfew over the weekend in eight of the 20 districts due to a significant improvement in the Covid situation. The eight districts are Shopian, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur.

The daily nightly curfew remains in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. throughout the Union territory.

Goa

The Goa government has extended the curfew caused by Covid in the state until June 28th at 7 a.m. Shops in shopping centers, with the exception of cinemas, theaters, multiplexes and entertainment areas, are allowed to be open between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Mizoram

The government of Mizoram has extended the lockdown until June 30th with certain relaxations. Under the new regulations, movement between villages will be allowed and shops other than those selling essential goods will be allowed to open in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area on certain days.

According to the PTI, all economic activities in areas outside of the AMC jurisdiction will function normally. However, places of worship, educational institutions, parks, picnic areas, cinemas, sports halls, restaurants, and shopping malls and malls are to remain closed across the state.

Tripura

The Tripura government has extended the Covid curfew in Agartala and 11 other municipal authorities (ULBs) until June 25, from 2 p.m. to 5 a.m. However, the night’s sleep from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. has been lifted from the villages.

According to the announcement, all individual shops and commercial operations should only remain open between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. in strict compliance with the Covid guidelines. Shopping malls and market complexes will remain closed at all times and bazaar committees will deploy volunteers to ensure strict compliance with social distancing.

All government and private offices will remain open until 4 p.m. with 50 percent attendance.
