The negligence of a Covid-positive granthis from a Gurdwara in Sangrur, Punjab, who distributed prasad to hundreds of people on June 1, has put health authorities under pressure.
Some prominent people who received the prasad were Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla and former MLA sangrur Prakash Chand Garg.
Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla confirmed the failure of health officials, saying he had directed the health department to start a Covid test drive in the village to help contain the spread of the virus.

Health Department officials said the Granthi was symptomatic and submitted samples for a Covid test on May 31.
He distributed prasad to the people who gathered in Gurdwara village to pray for Karamjit Singh, a peasant demonstrator who recently died in New Delhi.
The preacher — who distributed the prasad on June 1st — tested positive that evening. His wife also tested positive.
Meanwhile, the samples collected by the health department from 30 villagers turned out to be negative. More samples will now be collected to check for spread. The exact number of people who attended this meeting is not known.
More than 60% of all Covid cases in Punjab are reported from the rural areas, where the Covid-19 death rate is three times higher than in the urban areas.
