A 42-year-old television reporter is said to have died in a traffic accident after his motorcycle hit a mast near a brick oven in the Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. This comes a day after he sought police protection over the threats he received for a story against the alcohol mafia.

The deceased was identified as Sulabh Srivastava. According to the additional SP Surendra Dwivedi, the alleged accident occurred on Sunday when the reporter returned from Lalganj Police Station after reporting on an illegal arms factory.

After the locals were informed of his accident, a reporter colleague reached the site in an ambulance and took Srivastava to the district hospital. However, the doctors pronounced him dead. His body was sent for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, Congress Chairwoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has targeted the state-led government of Yogi Adityanath over the journalist’s death.
