The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has issued an FIR under the Child Protection from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and the Information Technology (IT) Act against Twitter based on a complaint by the NCPCR about access to child sexual abuse material on the Platform registered.

The NCPCR summoned DCP, Delhi Police Cyber Cell, last week to appear in person before the commission on or before June 29th. Deputy Police Commissioner (DCP) Anyesh Roy has been asked to explain why no action has been taken against Twitter, according to the letter from the NCPCR to the Delhi Police Department dated May 29 this year.

In his letter it says National Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (NCPCR) asked the Delhi Police to book Twitter based on the results of their latest investigation. In its letter, the commission alleged that child sexual abuse material (CSAM) was readily available on the micro-blogging platform Twitter.

“The Commission also noted that the Toolkit for Deep and Dark Web is also available on Twitter. This will give everyone, including children, access to this material, ”the NCPCR said in its letter last month.
