Delhi Police questioned Twitter India MD on May 31 over Sambit Patra ‘toolkit’ case: Sources

Twitter India’s MD Manish Maheshwari was interviewed by Delhi police because the tweet by BJP spokesman Sambit Patra was labeled as “manipulated media”. Sources told India Today TV that a team from Delhi police went to Bengaluru on May 31 this year to question Maheshwari on the case.

Government sources say the Delhi Police investigation not only sheds a clearer picture of Twitter India’s links with its US-based parent company, but also reveals a “complex web of corporate veils designed to mislead Indian law enforcement agencies”.

Delhi police had sent notifications to Twitter India asking for details as to why Sambit Patra’s tweet was flagged as “rigged media” via the alleged “toolkit” of Congress. A decision to question the executive director of Twitter India was made after Delhi police received “evasive” responses to their reports, top government sources said.

Previously, the Delhi police had offered to travel to Manish Maheshwari to ensure that he could answer all relevant questions related to the case. In response, Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari disclosed his Bengaluru address and said he would join the investigation in person.

“Tampering starts on Twitter itself on the doorstep. Twitter should start verifying the facts of its own employees. The most senior employee of Twitter India has misrepresented people overall by announcing Maheshwari as managing director when he only claims To be sales manager when asked for responsibility, “said a senior government source familiar with the facts of the case.

India Today TV has now obtained details of the interaction between the Delhi Police and MD Manish Maheshwari from Twitter.

“Twitter India MD knows little about its own team”

Maheshwari told Delhi Police that although he is the senior official of Twitter India’s subsidiary TCIPL, he did not know the company’s directors. Maheshwari, also known externally as the company’s Managing Director (MD), said he derived his information about the hierarchical structure of Twitter India from records held by the Department of Corporate Affairs.

The Delhi police are also looking into this surprising admission by the head of Twitter India that although he is the company’s highest-ranking employee in the country, he has little information on his own team.

Maheshwari reports to Yu Sasamoto?

During the May 31 interaction, Manish Maheshwari was also asked if he was reporting to someone who is also a TCIPL employee.

Sources said Maheshwari told Delhi police that he was reporting to Singapore-based Yu Sasamoto. Reports confirm that Yu Sasamoto was named Twitter Vice President for Japan, South Korea and Asia Pacific (JAPAC) on May 1 this year. Sasamoto succeeded Maya Hari, who was promoted to a global role within the organization as Vice President of Global Strategy and Operations (GSO).

Maheshwari reportedly told the Delhi police team that “his boss [Sasamoto] is not an employee of TCIPL and does not know the exact name of the legal entity his boss is employed at, but his best guess was Twitter Asia-Pacific “.

Delhi Police sources clarified, “Since Maheshwari has accepted his reporting to a Twitter Asia Pacific employee, his claim that he is not related to Twitter Inc. is clearly not true.”

The Delhi police are also said to have questioned Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari whether he and others like him are employees of TCIPL rather than Twitter Inc as they claim. And if so, why does his email id end with @twitter and not @tcipl.

When asked why Mahesh Maheshwari calls himself the MD of Twitter India even though he is not an employee of Twitter Inc, sources said he had told the Delhi Police that his “market-oriented” designation among advertisers was that of the CEO of Twitter India (TCIPL) is. . Maheshwari said that this corresponds to current market practice in Indian business circles.

The government is also due to investigate, as Maheshwari claimed, “it is common business practice to designate the most senior person in charge of a business unit in India as the Managing Director (MD).”

Twitter and TCPL

According to sources, Maheshwari was unable to provide any specific answers about the connection between Twitter Inc. and its subsidiary TCIPL. He claimed it could be a subsidiary of Twitter Asia-Pacific or some other legal entity.

One of the directors of TCIPL is Mr. Winston Foo, a Twitter Asia Pacific employee in Singapore, Manish Maheshwari told the Delhi Police Department.
