Delhi reports 131 fresh Covid cases, lowest since Feb 22; positivity rate at 0.22%


Delhi continued the downward trend of the daily spike, reporting 131 on Monday new cases of Covid-19 and 16 deaths from the virus. The renewed increase of 131 cases in the past 24 hours is Delhi’s lowest one-day jump since February 22nd.

The number of 16 new deaths on Monday is also the lowest number of Covid deaths in a day since April 5 in Delhi.

The case positivity rate in Delhi is currently 0.22 percent, which is also the lowest since February 21. Delhi’s recovery rate has reached 98.03 percent while the death rate is 1.74 percent.

Delhi has so far reported 14,31,270 cases of Covid-19, 24,839 deaths from the virus and 3/14/205 recoveries, including 355 layoffs in the last 24 hours.

The city currently has 3,226 active cases of Covid-19, the lowest number of active cases since March 19.

Amid the daily decline in Covid-19 cases, the Prime Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, announced on Sunday Further relaxation of the Covid-related restrictions in the city. The Prime Minister announced the resumption of all economic activity, with the exception of some that will remain banned and some that will continue with restrictions.

In a press conference, CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the odd-even rule for stores in markets and shopping malls in the city will be discontinued and that all stores will be open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. from Monday. Restaurants are allowed to open with 50 percent seating capacity.

However, CM Arvind Kejriwal said this will be done on a trial basis for a week and more stringent restrictions will be imposed as cases increase.

Under the relaxed norms, government offices were allowed to work with 100 percent presence of officials from Group A and 50 percent for the rest.

All private offices are also allowed to work with 50 percent of their workforce between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

All independent shops are allowed to open on all days without distinguishing between essential and non-essential goods / services. However, the opening times of such shops that offer non-essential goods / services have been set between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The Delhi government also allowed all markets, market complexes and shopping malls to open between 10am and 8pm.
