Copenhagen, who burst into tears after Christian Eriksen collapsed in the game against Finland earlier this month, burst into joy as the hosts went wild.

The Parken Stadium in Copenhagen erupted with joy when Denmark defeated Russia 4-1 and thus made it to the round of 16 of the Euro 2020. It was Denmark’s first Group B win and it was enough to take second place ahead of Finland and Russia on Monday.

It was a difficult game for Denmark and its people when the national team lost 1-0 to debutants Finland. They were beaten 2-1 by Belgium, who came back from behind after an early goal from Poulsen.

Backed by thousands of emotional fans in Copenhagen, Denmark went into the final day of Group B knowing that a win and nothing less than that would keep their hopes alive.

Charged Denmark sends Copenhagen wild

On Monday they scored the opening goal in the first half through Mikkel Damsgaard, despite the cheers of the Danish fans reaching the ceiling. Yussuf Poulsen threw himself on a bad back pass from Roman Zobnin and scored the second goal in the 59th minute.

Russia struck back, however, when Artyom scored Dzyuba from a penalty in the 70th minute. All Danish fans must have been watching the other Group B match between Belgium and Finland as a Roberto Martinez men’s win gave them the second-place chance they gladly took.

Lukaku scores again as the Belgian group B leader

Denmark made it easier for them when Andreas Christensen made it 3-1 with a thunderbolt. A fourth from Joakim Maehle completed the defeat against Russia.

Belgium performed perfectly in the group stage and beat Finland 2-0. An own goal by Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky in the second half and a goal by Romelu Lukaku gave Belgium their third straight win.

Finland is level on points with Denmark (3), but is in third place due to the lower goal difference. You still have a chance to advance to the next round as the top 4 third-placed teams along with the top 2 of each group advance to the round of the last 16.
