Former Punjab Prime Minister Parkash Singh Badal has been summoned by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the case of Kotkapura Police being released. Prakash Singh Badal was asked to appear in front of SIT on June 16 (Wednesday).
Parkash Singh Badal was Prime Minister of Punjab when police opened fire on demonstrators on October 14, 2015, killing two and injuring others. Parkash Singh Badal was called in to find out who gave the order to shoot.
The notification read: “You are hereby requested to appear in person in front of the SIT on June 16, 2021 at 10.30 a.m. at the PSPCL rest house in Mohali together with the relevant recordings in order to investigate the above-mentioned cases.”
The Punjab government had set up a SIT led by ADGP LK Yadav after the Punjab and Haryana Supreme Court rejected an investigation into a previous SIT and gave the Badals a clean chit.
The verdict was huge political controversy with part of the Punjab MLAs targeting their own government including Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Sidhu, who represents Amritsar East in the Punjab Assembly, has attacked his party’s government in the state for failing to take action against those involved in the 2015 desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and the subsequent shootings in Kotkapura, Faridkot .
