The Prime Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on Monday launched a volley of attacks on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and called him a “corrupt” man whose name was “on the indictment of the Jain Hawala case”.

Mamata Banerjee also said that she wrote three letters for the removal of West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhakhar.

“I wrote three letters for the ousting of the governor of West Bengal. He is a corrupt man, his name was on the 1996 indictment of the Hawala Jain case,” said CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday during a press conference.

“Why should he dictate, even after our government got a huge mandate?” Mamata Banerjee added.

The hawala scandal, also known as the Jain Diaries case, was a 1990s hawala scam with payments allegedly sent by politicians through four hawala brokers namely the Jain Brothers. It was an $ 18 million scandal involving some of the country’s leaders.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has announced that he will speak at a press conference at 6:30 p.m. today at the Raj Bhawan.

All is not well between the TMC-led government of West Bengal and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Last week, sources said the TMC is planning a resolution in the state parliament against Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The party led by Mamata Banerjee plans to request his removal, sources said, adding that discussions are ongoing about it. Chief Minister Banerjee also discussed the issue with Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee.

The general assembly in the country begins on July 2nd.

West Bengal Assembly spokesman Biman Banerjee also complained last week to Lok Sabha spokesman Om Birla about “excessive interference” by Governor Dhankhar in parliamentary affairs and the functioning of the assembly.
