Govt issues security advisory for Indian nationals in Afghanistan, says situation dangerous


The government issued a security warning to Indian nationals in Afghanistan on Tuesday in light of recent security developments in the war-torn country.

The report described the situation in several provinces of Afghanistan as “dangerous”, with Indian nationals being exposed to the additional risk of being kidnapped by terrorist groups.

“The security situation in Afghanistan remains dangerous in several provinces. Terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan have escalated violent activities and carried out a number of complex attacks. Indian citizens are no exception, and they are also at risk of serious kidnappings,” said Das shared a statement the Indian embassy in Kabul with.

The Embassy has advised Indian nationals living or traveling in Afghanistan “to exercise the utmost vigilance and caution with regard to safety at work, at home and also during travel to their workplace”.

All Indian nationals arriving in Afghanistan have been asked to register at the embassy / consulate on the website www.eoi.gov.in/kabul or by emailing paw.kabul@mea.gov.in.

In addition, Indian nationals have been “strongly advised” to avoid all kinds of non-essential movements, especially during rush hour.

“When traveling on the road, keep your distance from potential destinations such as military convoys, ministry / agency vehicles, high-ranking officials, law enforcement agencies, and avoid visiting crowded markets, shopping malls, mandis, restaurants and other public places.” the consultative states.

Indian nationals have also been urged to avoid traveling outside of the capital cities. In the event that remote station travel is required, people should prefer to travel by air as rail and land routes remain vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

The embassy “strongly advised” Indian companies operating in Afghanistan to take the necessary security measures for their Indian employees at the project locations. These companies can contact the Indian Embassy Security and Public Affairs Department for the guidance / assistance required.
