Harsh weather conditions force China to rotate 90% troops deployed against India

With around 50,000 soldiers stationed against India for over a year, the Chinese army had to switch around 90 percent of its troops because they don’t seem to be doing well in the extreme weather and freezing cold.

“The Chinese army has been forced to rotate almost all of its forces as we have seen 90 percent of the forces they use against us have been changed,” senior government sources told India Today.

The new troops were brought in from other areas and reserve forces outside the Tibet Autonomous Region, they said.

Sources said the Chinese armed forces were badly hit by the cold last year and sustained numerous injuries during the winter season, the Indian side proved.

India also changes its troops every year, but the percentage of troops rotated remains in the range of 40 to 50 percent due to the two-year fixed tenure in the mountainous region of Ladakh. However, due to its extensive experience in high altitude operations, the Indian Army has performed admirably against China in operations in the eastern Ladakh sector.

This year, too, the Chinese returned to the Indian border in large numbers.

“The Chinese armed forces have returned to their traditional training areas for an exercise near east Ladakh,” sources said.

“Chinese troops are present in large numbers and are carrying out exercises at various locations in their deep regions, from which they can reach the Indian front within a few hours. The Indian Armed Forces have also increased their presence in the region, closely monitoring Chinese activities in neighboring sectors, ”they said.

The two countries have been in dispute since April-May last year, with points of friction along the border that need to be resolved to ensure a peaceful solution to the current situation.

The chief of the Indian army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane, has personally visited the sector of Ladakh to assess the situation and to give orders to the troops on the ground.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also active in providing input to the armed forces in dealing with the situation, as well as in the meetings of the Chinese study group to guide the force’s position during military talks with China.
