Delhi’s Baba Ka Dhaba owner Kanta Prasad, who rose to fame overnight last year after a YouTuber from his restaurant shared a video and humbly asked the public for help during the lockdown, attempted suicide on Friday.

From overnight celebrity to battling life in a hospital after a suicide attempt, this is the story of Baba Ka Dhaba owner Kanta Prasad, his video of a ramshackle restaurant and humble appeal for help to the public amid the lockdown by one YouTuber shared, the most heartwarming moment of the year was 2020.
The eighty-year-old on Thursday Attempted suicide and is currently fighting for life at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
His son Azad opened up to what made his father take this extreme step.
Azad told India Today TV that his father had been battling depression for the past few years and had attempted suicide once before six years ago.
He took sleeping pills around 6 a.m. on Thursday morning and was taken to the hospital, where he is currently ventilated, his son said.
As to why his father was not doing well for the past few months, Azad said he received abusive phone calls, and people asked him to apologize after his argument with YouTuber Gaurav Wasan.
“He used sleeping pills. He was depressed. Six years ago he also used sleeping pills. He is currently on the ventilator. The reason for his depression was that people have recently begged him to apologize, they called him and hurled abuses. Lots of people even talked about him on YouTube. People went to his shop and said all sorts of things. I don’t know where he got the sleeping pills from, “his son said.
Azad added: “He was also stressed about money”.
Azad also said that overnight fame was not the problem, but the people associated with his father afterwards misled him.
“If only Gaurav Wasan had been with him, everything would have been fine. The trouble started when more people came into contact with him.” [his father] and gave him false information about Wasan, “said Azad.
According to the Delhi police, they received information from Safdarjung Hospital around 11:15 p.m. on Thursday evening that 81-year-old Kanta Prasad was hospitalized.
Kanta Prasad had consumed alcohol and sleeping pills, and the hospital reported that he was unconscious. A statement by his son Karan said his father took alcohol and sleeping pills. The police have opened a further investigation.

It all started when YouTuber Gaurav game shared a video on his social media accounts and urged people to come forward and help Kanta Prasad and his wife who were struggling to make ends meet during the lockdown.
Kanta Prasad’s tear-streaked appeal brought internet users together and in a very short time his bar was filled with hundreds of people not only from Delhi but also from the surrounding area to bite his Matar Paneer at the stand, among other things
The video was originally shared from a Facebook page called Swad Official, which is managed by Gaurav Wasan.
