ICC World Test Championship: R Ashwin, Marnus Labuschagne dominate record books in inaugural WTC


ICC World Test Championship: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ended up as the leading wicket taker, while Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne was the top run scorer in the first WTC. England captain Joe Root and New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson held the other records.

New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson, became test world champions after beating Virat Kohlis India with 8 wickets in Southampton on Wednesday in the historic, rain-soaked WTC final in Southampton. The one-off finale marked the culmination of a two-year cycle of the inaugural WTC, which was launched in 2019 to create a top event for test cricket.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the top bowler in the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship after overtaking Pat Cummins on the final day of the competition in Southampton on Wednesday.

Most 5-wicket hauls in the WTC: Kyle Jamieson

New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls in the ICC World Test Championship during the historic first edition finals against India at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. Jamieson, who started his testing career in 2020, has scalped 41 test wickets in 8 games so far.

Highest runscorer in the WTC: Marnus Labuschagne

Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne looked in tremendous contact during the first World Test Championship release. He became the top run scorer in the competition with 1,675 runs from 23 innings at a staggering average of 72.82.

Most catches in the WTC: Joe Root

English captain Joe Root holds the record for most catches in the ICC World Test Championship. Root tops the list with 34 catches in 20 matches. He caught a maximum of 3 catches in a single match.

Most centuries in the WTC: Marnus Labuschagne

Australian Marnus Labuschagne has broken most centuries in the ICC World Test Championship. Marnus Labuschagne has scored 500 points in 23 innings in the World Test Championship. In 23 innings, Labuschagne scored 1,675 runs in the ICC World Test Championship.
