India reports 1.2 lakh new cases, lowest in 58 days, positivity rate dips to 5.78%


With lockdowns in place in several states, coronavirus cases in India continued to show a decline as the country’s active case count continued to decline to 15,55,248, a decrease of 80,745 cases in the past 24 hours.

India’s Covid-19 count continued to show a downward trend as the country registered 1,20,529 lakh new cases of virus on Saturday, the lowest in 58 days. The number of active cases continued to decrease to 15.55.248, a decrease of 80.745 cases in the last 24 hours.

On the recovery front, at least 2.67 billion people across the country have recovered from Covid-19 infection to date, with 1,97,894 people recovering in the past 24 hours. Now India has reported more daily recoveries than new cases for 23 consecutive days.

The death toll now stands at 344,082 with 3,380 new fatalities.

The daily positivity rate continued to decline to 5.78 percent, while the recovery rate continued its upward trend at 93.38 percent.

So far, 22.78 million vaccine doses have been administered as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign.

The five largest states that recorded maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 22,651 cases, followed by Kerala with 16,229 cases, Karnataka with 16,068 cases, Maharashtra with 14,152 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 10,413 cases. 65.96% of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 18.79% of the new cases.

Most of the casualties were reported in Maharashtra (1,377), followed by Tamil Nadu with 463 deaths every day.
