A 34-year-old Covid-19 survivor was diagnosed with green fungal infection in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore and was taken to Mumbai by ambulance for treatment, a senior doctor said Tuesday.
Dr. Ravi Dosi, director of the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) breast disease division, said the man who had recovered from Covid-19 underwent a test suspected of having the dreaded infection with the black Had contracted the fungus (mucormycosis).
Instead, however, a green fungus infection (aspergillosis) was found in his sinuses, lungs, and blood.
More research is needed to determine whether the type of green fungal infection in people who have recovered from Covid-19 is different from other patients, said Dr. Dosi.

The man was admitted to a local hospital two months ago with nearly 100 percent coronavirus infection in his lungs and was treated in the intensive care unit for about a month.
“The patient recovered. But then he developed a nosebleed and a high fever. He was also very weak from weight loss,” said the doctor.
