Loni assault case: Bombay High Court grants 4 week transit bail to Rana Ayyub


The Bombay Supreme Court has given journalist Rana Ayyub transit bail in a case filed by UP police over a tweet about an alleged assault in Ghaziabad.

The Bombay Supreme Court granted journalist Rana Ayyub on Monday in connection with a case brought by Ghaziabad police over an Tweet on the Loni incident in Uttar Pradesh.

The HC bank ordered that Rana Ayyub be granted protection so that the journalist can turn to the court for relief.

“The complainant seeks protection so that the competent court in the FIR can seek appropriate legal remedies. A temporary period of four weeks can be granted for the complainant to appeal to the court ”, read the decision of the Supreme Court of Bombay on Rana Ayyub’s plea.

Journalist Rana Ayyub appealed to the court on June 18 after Uttar Pradesh police named her for Loni in an FIR incident.

WHAT’S THE CASE?

Ghaziabad police had booked eight on June 15, including journalists Mohammed Zubair and Rana Ayyub, as well as three congressional leaders and writer Saba Naqvi.

They were booked for distributing a video claiming the elderly Muslim man was supposed to be beaten up by some young men on June 5th and asked to sing “Jai Shri Ram”.

However, police claimed the video was shared to cause community unrest.

The June 15 FIR stated that Ghaziabad police made a statement stating the facts of the incident, but the defendants did not remove the video from their twitter handles.

The FIR was established under Sections 153 (willful provocation with the intention of causing riot), 153A (promoting hostility between groups based on religion, class, etc.) of one’s religion or religious belief) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Criminal Code ( IPC).
