Loni viral video: Ghaziabad Police refutes communal angle, says victim knew accused

A video circulating on social media shows an elderly Muslim man being beaten up in Ghaziabad’s Loni. Ghaziabad police now claim that the incident had no community aspect and that the man knew the attackers personally.

Abdul Samad, 72, was beaten by six people on June 5. The attackers also chopped off his beard, as seen in the viral video.

Accompanied by the local leader of the Samajwadi party, Ummed Pahlwan Idrisi, Abdul Samad filed an FIR on June 7th against unidentified persons. Samad later participated in a Facebook live claiming he was kidnapped and beaten by the attackers, who also forced him to sing “Jai Shri Ram”.

No community corner: police

“The incident has no common aspect. The victim and the accused have known each other for a long time. The victim sold a tabeez (amulet) to the main defendant Parvesh, but he did [Parvesh] complained that it had a negative impact on his family, “said the Superintendent of Police (SP), Ghaziabad (rural), Iraj Raja.

SP Raja added, “Hey [Parvesh] Abdul Samad called to his home and started beating him. He called his friends Kallu, Poli, Aadil, Arif and Mushahid, who also did the victim tied up and his beard chopped off. One case was recorded and key defendants were arrested. The investigation is still ongoing. “

Ghaziabad police also said the video broadcast on social media has no sound and may have been uploaded to instigate community disharmony. It was also suggested that at least three to four of the accused are also Muslim.

Victim did not name a defendant in FIR

The victim knew the accused but did not name any of them in the FIR, police said, adding that the ad also made no mention of the victim being forced to sing “Jai Shri Ram”.

“In the first FIR filed on June 7th, the victim didn’t name anyone or tell us that he was kidnapped and beaten and forced to sing Jai Shri Ram. It came to light after a local guide posted a Facebook – He had done live with him and we subsequently submitted an FIR under the relevant sections, “said Ghaziabad (rural) SP Iraj Raja.

The police superintendent continued, “After a few days, a no-sound video of the incident was broadcast on social media. We are examining the matter from all angles and those found to be manipulating or tampering with evidence, “the case is posted.”

Police do not properly investigate case: SP leader

Samajwadi Party leader Ummed Pahlwan Idrisi alleged that the police were not investigating the case properly.

“No Muslim can cut the beard of another Muslim. If someone has done this, strict measures must be taken against him. The victim, Samad, told me that he was forced to sing Jai Shri Ram and his beard was chopped off. He was mercilessly beaten and so I did a Facebook live with him. Hopefully the police are investigating the matter properly, “said Idrisi.

The Ghaziabads Loni incident sparked a war of words between CM Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh and Congressman Rahul Gandhi.

In the meantime, the victim – Abdul Samad – has decided to return to his home in Anupshahr in the UP district of Bulandshahr.
