Madhya Pradesh records first death from Delta Plus variant of Covid-19


Genome sequencing has confirmed that a Covid patient who died of the virus on May 23rd in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain was infected with the Delta Plus variant.

Madhya Pradesh reported its first Covid death in connection with the Delta Plus variant of SARS-CoV-2 on Wednesday. Genome sequencing of samples from a deceased Covid patient in Ujjain revealed that she was infected with the Delta Plus variant of the virus.

A total of five confirmed cases of the Delta Plus variant have so far come to light in Madhya Pradesh. Three of these cases were reported from Bhopal and the rest from Ujjain.

Of the five Covid patients in MP who were infected with the Delta Plus variant, four recovered while one woman succumbed to the virus.

Ujjain’s Nodal Covid officer Dr. Raunak told Aaj Tak / India Today that reports from Bhopal confirmed that Ujjain had two cases of the Delta Plus variant.

The Covid victim who was infected with the Delta Plus variant in Ujjain died on May 23, said Dr. Raunak. He added that her husband tested positive for Covid-19 before the wife. Officials also found that the husband had received both doses of the vaccine while the wife was still receiving the vaccination.

Madhya Pradesh Vishwas Sarang., Minister for Medical Education said, “The government is monitoring the situation. The patients who were positive for the Delta Plus variant have been traced and the reports of their contacts are negative.”

“Even then, the government has urged all hospitals to remain vigilant. We are doing massive testing and genome sequencing to ensure cases are identified without delay, ”said Minister Sarang.

He added, “It is interesting to note that four out of five people whose samples were positive for the Delta Plus variant had received the vaccine and are now healthy. However, the patient who was not vaccinated succumbed to the So we appeal to everyone to get vaccinated. “
