Maharashtra to lift lockdown restrictions from Monday: All you need to know


In a night development on Friday, the Maharashtra government announced that it will lift lockdown restrictions starting Monday through its five-step unlock plan. The Maharashtra lockdown will be relaxed based on the Covid positivity rate and the availability of oxygen beds in the state. The order will be implemented from Monday.

In a statement, the Maharashtra government said, “Lockdown restrictions will be relaxed based on the COVID positivity rate and the availability of oxygen beds in Maharashtra.” The degree of relaxation has been set according to the severity of Covid-19 in those counties.

According to the guidelines, the situation is assessed by the health department every Thursday.

Everything you need to know about the five-step unlock plan in Maharashtra:

LEVEL 1

All districts in which the Covid case positivity rate is 5 percent or less and the occupancy of the hospital beds is less than 25 percent fall under level 1. These districts may be fully activated and all activities will continue normally.

Theaters, shopping malls, private and government offices are allowed to open in these districts. Weddings, funerals and filming are also allowed.

Manufacturing and other industries can also be resumed in areas 1 and 2 without restrictions.

LEVEL 2

Cities and districts with a positivity rate of 5 percent for Covid cases and an occupancy of hospital beds of 25 to 40 percent are included in level 2.

Section 144 remains applicable in the districts that fall under Level 2. Mumbai falls into Level 2 of the Unlocking Plan.

Restaurants, fitness studios, salons and beauty salons may be operated with a capacity of 50 percent. Local trains are not allowed to run for the general public.

LEVEL 3

All districts in which the Covid case positivity rate is 5-10 percent and the occupancy of hospital beds is below 40-60 percent fall under level 3.

LEVEL 4

Areas with a positivity rate of 10-20 percent and an occupancy rate of 60-75 percent will fall under level 4.

LEVEL 5

Cities and districts with a positivity of 20 percent and more and an occupancy rate of over 75 percent fall under level 5. There would be no easing in such areas. An e-pass is required to travel to / from cities / districts that fall below level 5.

The announcement comes a day later Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said restrictions would be lifted in 18 of 36 districts in the state based on case positivity rate and hospital bed occupancy. However, a few hours later the state government issued a clarification that Covid restrictions had not yet been lifted anywhere.

Maharashtra reported 14,152 new Covid-19 cases and 289 deaths on Friday, bringing the case number to 58.05,565 and the death toll to 98,771, the health department said. The state has reported fewer than 20,000 cases for the fifth day in a row.

Recoveries exceeded new infections as 20,852 patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the number of recovered cases to 7/5/058. The number of active cases dropped below two lakh to 1.96.894.
