Maharashtra Unlock 2.0: Follow Covid norms to avoid another ‘lockdown & knockdown’, says Thackeray

As the restrictions caused by Covid in Maharashtra are gradually eased, Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned the public to abide by all norms if they want to avoid another “lockdown and crackdown” due to the deadly virus.

“We don’t want both lockdown and knockdown, so please stick to the rules. Total relaxation is not enough. We have set criteria and guidelines, the local administration will make further decisions, ”Thackeray said at a meeting with leading business people and entrepreneurs.

The Shiv Sena’s leader went on to explain that the state should lead the country by example by showing that the industrial sector can function uninterruptedly while observing the Covid protocols.

Thackeray commended industry leaders in attendance for increasing the supply of oxygen and medical equipment when a critical shortage occurred during the second wave of Covid. Now he urged them to keep an eye on the health and wellbeing of their employees to avoid a resurgence of the virus.

“Keep the health records of construction workers as well as workers in the industry. They shouldn’t spread the virus here or in their village. Keep track of their families. If they come from outside, they should stay isolated on their premises for their employees and staff, “he explained.

The CM noted that even if the government had to impose another lockdown after a third wave, it shouldn’t have any impact on production and day-to-day operations. Thackeray also said that if the city’s daily number of Covid cases are brought under control, film and television approval will be granted in Mumbai.

Uday Kotak, Sanjeev Bajaj, B Thiagarajan, Dr Sanjay Oak and Shashank Joshi attended the meeting.

The industrialists present at the meeting welcomed the positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy criteria to ease restrictions, and also made some recommendations of their own.

They said people should be made aware of this and also offered help containing the spread of Covid in rural areas.

Industry leaders also suggested that members of the unorganized sector should be vaccinated and that IT professionals should be allowed to continue working from home.
