Mamata Banerjee seeks PM Modi’s intervention for early approval of Covaxin from WHO for students going abroad


The Bengali CM Mamata Banerjee has requested the intervention of PM Modi to get early approval of Covaxin from the WHO for students going abroad.

West Bengal Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asking for his intervention in the World Health Organization (WHO) early approval of Covaxin for overseas students.

“We have received both Covishield and Covaxin since the vaccination program began. The private sector in the state has also procured both vaccines. However, it turns out that Covaxin has not yet been approved by the WHO and it is not possible “to travel abroad as many countries only allow people who are fully vaccinated with WHO-approved vaccines,” wrote Banerjee in her letter of PM modes.

The prime minister said many students from across the country travel abroad each year for advanced studies and many of those students get Covaxin vaccinated.

“They later learned that their vaccination card was not valid abroad. These students are now in a bind and their careers are at stake,” she added.

Therefore, the Prime Minister has requested the Prime Minister’s intervention so that the students do not have any problems.

“This will also benefit people traveling abroad for work, education, business and other purposes,” said Banerjee.

Vaccination campaign for mothers of children under 12

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government announced one special vaccination campaign for mothers of children under 12 as the state prepares to tackle a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Children depend on their mother. We have therefore decided to give priority to vaccines for mothers of children under the age of 12, ”Mamata Banerjee told the media in the State Secretariat Nabanna.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the state will vaccinate an additional 70 lakh people by July, bringing the total number of vaccinations in the state to nearly 3 million.
