Man hospitalised after shopkeeper mistakenly sells him acid instead of mineral water in J&K’s Kulgam


The shopkeeper was arrested and an FIR was registered against him.

Niyaz Ahmad Bhat came back after destroying the poppy plantation.

A tehsildar in southern Kashmir’s Kulgam district was hospitalized on Wednesday after a shopkeeper mistakenly sold him a bottle of battery acid instead of water.

Official sources told India Today that Tehsildar DH Pora, Niyaz Ahmad Bhat, returned after the poppy cultivation was destroyed and asked for a bottle of water at a nearby general store around 11:00 today.

“The shopkeeper mistakenly sold him a bottle of a water-like liquid that was battery acid packed in a waste mineral water bottle. The tehsildar drank it and felt unwell and was hospitalized, ”one officer said.

Niyaz Ahmad told India Today that he was thirsty and asked the shopkeeper for a bottle of water, but handed him battery acid.

“I immediately went to the hospital and went to Srinagar for further treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, BMO Damhal Hanjipora, Gulzar Ahmad Dar said that Niyaz Ahmad’s condition was stable and had been released.

Meanwhile, police officer DH Pora Tanveer Ahmad said the shopkeeper has been arrested and an FIR number 60/2021 has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law.
