Meril gets nod from ICMR for its indigenous Covid-19 self-test kit

Medtech company Meril has announced that it has received approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for its rapid antigen test kit for self-use for Covid-19.

Meril’s indigenous rapid home antigen test kits, CoviFind, will expand access to Covid-19 testing while helping the nation meet the demand for increased and frequent screenings to contain the spread of the pandemic, Meril said in a statement .

The test gives results quickly and gives accurate results in 15 minutes, he added.

“By providing reliable rapid antigen tests for everyone in a convenient format, Meril’s CoviFind test will facilitate early detection, isolation, treatment and contact tracking,” said Sanjeev Bhatt, senior vice-president (corporate strategy) of Meril.

Meril said it has provided a large number of tests for its Covid-19 diagnostic offerings across India, including a multiplex RT-PCR test and Kavach antibody tests in partnership with ICMR.

What does the test include?

The test kit comes with test supplies like a test device, a sterile nasal swab, and a pre-filled buffer tube with a cap, and costs Rs 250 as an affordable single pack, according to the company.

The test kits will be available in retail pharmacies, e-pharmacies and through e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart in two weeks, she added.
