Mumbai Covid vaccine scam: Probe says victims given saline water, all to undergo antibody tests


Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said Tuesday that everyone Victims of vaccine fraud in Mumbai will undergo antibody tests and receive two doses of Covishield vaccine after the state writes to the Government of India.

He said the victims appear to have been given salt water, based on previous investigations.

The vaccine blemish in Mumbai came to light after that Resident of a housing association in the Kandivali area claimed they were the victims of an elaborate “vaccination scam” in which they received counterfeit Covid-19 syringes. Residents also claimed they didn’t even experience symptoms or side effects.

According to the Maharashtra Minister of Health, a total of 2,040 people in Mumbai have fallen victim to vaccination fraud.

“The Maharashtra government will be doing antibody tests on all those who are in the first week of July was vaccinated by the gang. After the test, the state will notify the central government and the ICMR and ensure that everyone is vaccinated. A total of 2,040 people are now being vaccinated by the gang, “said Rajesh Tope.

Rajesh Tope added that Mumbai Police and BMC are investigating the matter. According to investigations, 10 people have been arrested and many FIRs filed so far, he said.

“All received first-dose certification, but research says the victims were given salt water. The defendant gang procured vaccine bottles from another state and filled them with salt water. People were given salt water in the name of vaccines,” he added added.

Rajesh Tope said the preliminary investigation suggests that the defendant obtained the empty Covishield vaccine bottles of the “97 batch sent to Gujarat” and filled them with salt water to conduct the vaccination campaign.

“About the Vaccination of victims of fraud, the general information on vaccination is currently being collected. Generally, antibodies are developed after 28-30 days of vaccination, so antibody tests are done in the first week of July. And if it turns out afterward that they need the vaccine, we will contact the center to arrange their two doses, ”the state health minister said.
