Mumbai police arrested a 27-year-old woman who allegedly killed her husband with the help of her lover and hid his body by burying it in her kitchen.
Her six-year-old daughter was an eyewitness. When the police started the investigation, they revealed what her mother had done.
The deceased was identified as Raees Sheikh. He was married to Shahida Sheikh (the main defendant) in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh in 2012.
The couple moved to Mumbai in search of work and have a six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son.
The police have arrested Shahida Sheikh and her lover Aniket aka Amit Mishra for murder.
On Wednesday, police recovered Raees Sheikh’s body 11 days after his death. The police had to dig for almost 12 hours to recover the body, which was buried three feet below the kitchen.
According to police, Shahida Sheikh reached Dahisar Police Station on May 25 and filed a complaint. She told police that her husband did not return home after leaving on May 21st. She added that she has not been able to reach him since he left.
On this basis, the police registered a missing report and initiated the investigation.
On May 25, Raees’ brother Anees arrived in Mumbai and went to Dahisar Police Station. He told the police that his sister-in-law was changing her statements repeatedly. He also told the police that he suspected they were hiding something.
Police arrived at Raees’ home on June 1. During the house search, the police found that the floor tiles in the kitchen had been laid irregularly and that many tiles were missing.
When grilled over her husband’s disappearance, Shahida reportedly revealed that with the help of her lover, Amit Mishra, she murdered him and buried his body in the kitchen.
When the police asked her daughter, she also revealed what she had seen. She added that if she told anyone about it, her mother threatened that she too would be buried in a similar manner.
According to police, Shahida announced that she was having an extramarital affair with her neighbor, Amit Mishra. Her husband Raees found out about it. He was against the relationship and asked her to end it immediately.
However, Shahida, along with Amit Mishra, decided to murder Raees. On May 22, Shahida and Amit Raees strangled with a wire in front of their six-year-old daughter. They then cut his body in three, kept her in the bathroom for a while, and later buried her in the kitchen.
