This is a new record for the highest Covid vaccines administered in a single day. The previous high was over 48 lakh cans on April 1st.
As part of the new vaccination policy, the center will obtain 75 percent of the vaccines from the manufacturers and leave the remaining 25 percent to private actors. The center will also provide vaccines for all ages to states based on their needs.
Previously, the center only provided free vaccines to people aged 45 and over. It was the responsibility of the state governments to procure and administer 50 percent of the vaccines for citizens between 18 and 45 years of age.
In a statement, the government said that more than 7.9 billion vaccines were available for nationwide Covid-19 vaccination in May. These were increased to 11.78 crore in June. These include free delivery of vaccines to states and UTs from the center, those procured directly from the states and those procured directly from the private hospitals.
“The states were given advance notice of the vaccine doses available to them by the Union Department of Health and Family Welfare in June 2021. This advance information enabled states to develop vaccine distribution plans at the district level and the COVID Vaccination Center (CVC). This has enabled a massive increase in vaccine administration across the country, “the statement said.
