Lok Sabha spokesman Om Birla has approved the recognition of Pashupati Paras as leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in the Lok Sabha.

This came after five LJP MPs submitted a letter to Om Birla asking him to recognize Pashupati Paras, the younger brother of the late LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan, as leader of the parliamentary party Lok Sabha in place of Chirag Paswan.

The LJP experienced a massive setback on Monday after five of its six MPs in the Lok Sabha rebelled against party leader Chirag Paswan.

The rebellion was led by Pashupati Paras, the Hajipur MP and younger brother of the late LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan. Four LJP MPs – Chandan Singh, Veena Devi, Mehboob Ali Kaiser and Prince Raj – backed Paras as chairman of the party’s parliamentary bureau, leaving the party’s national president, Chirag Paswan, in isolation. Paras was then unanimously elected chairman of the LJP parliament in Lok Sabha.

The five rebel MPs wrote to Lok Sabha spokesman Om Birla to acknowledge the same.
