Pfizer’s Covid vaccine in final stages of getting approval in India: CEO Albert Bourla


Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, said Tuesday that the US pharmaceutical giant’s Covid-19 vaccine is in the final stages of emergency approval in India.

Pfizer is now in the final stages of emergency approval for its Covid-19 vaccine in India, said the company’s chairman and CEO, Albert Bourla. Bourla was quoted on Tuesday as saying, “I hope we can reach an agreement with the very soon [Indian] Government.”

The vaccine was developed by US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in collaboration with German biotechnology company BioNTech. Approved by the US FDA for emergencies in people 12 years and older, the vaccine showed an efficacy rate of 95 percent in a phase 3 study.

Doses of the vaccine can be stored at 2-8 degrees for a whole month.

NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul told CNBC-TV18 on Monday that the central government was in talks with Pfizer and other vaccine manufacturers. The vaccines are imported in accordance with local laws, Dr. Paul, who is also chairman of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC), quotes.

The MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi said at a press conference earlier this month India works with US companies Obtain Covid vaccines.

Previously, it was said in reports that Pfizer had informed the Indian authorities that its vaccination was “highly effective” against the SARS-CoV-2 variants common in India.

Pfizer has reportedly claimed it can offer five million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine to India between July and October this year.

Both Pfizer and American vaccine manufacturer Moderna have requested detente from the Indian authorities.

A warranty guarantee is one of the central requirements of Pfizer and Moderna. This link would protect the vaccine manufacturers from any legal claims in the event of Adverse Events after Immunization (AEFI) from the vaccinations in India.

In fact, Pfizer has succeeded in obtaining this legal protection in a number of countries where its vaccine is administered, including the UK and the US.
