The second baby for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is officially here: Meghan gave birth to a healthy girl on Friday.
A spokesman for Prince Harry and Meghan said Sunday the couple had welcomed their child Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Her daughter weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
Her first name Lilibet is a reference to Her Majesty the Queen’s nickname. Her middle name is in honor of her grandmother and Harry’s mother. The baby is eighth in line to the British throne.
No photos of the newborn or the Sussex accompanied the announcement.
Birth comes after Harry and Meghan’s explosive TV interview with Oprah Winfrey March. The couple described painful discussions about their first child’s skin color, the loss of royal protection, and the intense pressures that made them think about suicide.
Buckingham Palace said the couple’s allegations of racism were “worrying”. The royal family said the issue will be addressed privately.
Winfrey and Harry, on mental illness, recently collaborated on Apple TV + mental health series, The Me You Can’t See.
Harry and the American actress Meghan Markle were married in May 2018 at Windsor Castle. A year later, their son Archie was born.

In early 2020, Meghan and Harry announced they were giving up their royal duties and moving to North America, citing the intolerable interference and racist attitudes of the British media. They live in Montecito, a posh neighborhood near Santa Barbara, California.
