Shikhar Dhawan named captain, Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal in India side for Sri Lanka tour


Experienced opening player Shikhar Dhawan will lead a 20-strong India squad for the tour through Sri Lanka from July 13th. India will play Sri Lanka in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is next month.

India is headed by Shikhar Dhawan for the short tour, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named his deputy. Hardik Pandya and his brother Krunal Pandya were also named on the site.

Prithvi Shaw was also selected after a record-breaking Vijay Hazare Trophy and an impressive performance in the first half of the Indian Premier League.

Fast bowler Chetan Sakariya, who made his debut season in the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals earlier this year, was also called up for the first time in India.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has selected the Indian squad for the 3-game ODI series and 3-game T20I series against Sri Lanka, which are scheduled for July. All games will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, ”announced the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, who lost his fortune on the Indian team, has also been named to the team alongside Yuzvendra Chahal.

India has appointed two wicketkeepers in Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. Ishan had made an impressive start to his T20I career during the series against England at home.

Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal was also rewarded for a stellar Vijay Hazare season. In the first half of the 2021 IPL, Padikkal had scored his first hundred in the tournament.

Young Ruturaj Gaekwad, who impressed at the opening of the Chennai Super Kings, has also been added to the team that will face Sri Lanka next month.
