Sri Lanka cricketers seen roaming in Durham marketplace, suspected of bio-bubble breach


After Sri Lanka was whitewashed in the 3-game T20I series, Sri Lanka found itself in yet another problem following an alleged bio-bubble break by its players strolling around a market square.

The Sri Lankan cricket team, already in the spotlight after being whitewashed by England in the 3-game T20I series, got into further trouble after pictures of their cricketers appeared on social media casually on an English one Strolled around the market square.

In a possible case of a bio-bubble rupture. Vice-captain Kusal Mendia and wicketkeeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella were loitered in an English market place. The Durham team ahead of the 1st ODI on July 29th.

So far it has been known that Sri Lankan players were allowed to go out in Cardiff, but in Durham the city was banned due to the high number of Covid-19. A third player may also be involved.

The confirmed players will be isolated for 2 weeks and will be fined by the UK government.

Sri Lanka’s manager Manuja Kariyapperuma told ESPNcricinfo that team leaders would investigate the matter on Monday, but could not confirm whether a violation had actually taken place.

If it is confirmed that the two players have violated the protocols, they will be isolated and will not be available for the three ODI games.

While Mendis scored 9, 39 and 6 in the T20Is in Cardiff and Southampton, Dickwella managed 3 and 11 runs in the two games he played.

The team of Kusal Perera was comprehensively beaten by 8 wickets in the 1st T20I before losing again by 5 wickets and 89 runs in the last 2 games.
