Earth’s natural satellite, better known as the moon, appeared opposite the sun and was fully lit on Thursday during a rare celestial event called “Strawberry Moon,” which is also the last super moon of the year.

The strawberry moon marks the last full moon of the spring season and the first full moon of summer. The summer season began in the northern hemisphere with the June 21st solstice, which marked the longest day of the year.

According to NASA, the celestial moon is even referred to as the “strawberry moon” because it signaled the time for harvesting strawberries and other fruits.

The Strawberry Moon, which appeared on Thursday, was the first full moon after the summer solstice when it reached full phase.

While the moon is larger than its normal size in its orbit due to its proximity to Earth, the June full moon is not considered a super moon. like the one observed in May.

Strawberry Moon marks the last full moon of the spring season and the first of the summer season. The summer season in Northern hemisphere began on Monday when places north of the equator experienced the longest day of the year.

The strawberry moon was visible in India and reached its highest brightness around 12:10 p.m.

Why the name Strawberry Moon?

The sky phenomenon got its name from ancient American tribes who marked the full moon with the beginning of the harvest season for strawberries. June’s full name is referred to by different names in different parts of the world. In Europe he is known as the rose moon, which marks the harvest of the roses. In the northern hemisphere, it is known as the hot moon because it coincides with the start of the summer season north of the equator.

The strawberry moon appears in the night sky for longer than a day, in contrast to the normal moon when the full phase lasts a day. There are usually three full moons between the summer solstice and the equinox. However, there will be four such phases in 2021.

It takes the moon nearly 29.5 days to complete one revolution around the earth, during which it reaches its full phase and a new moon takes shape. Once in 20 years the summer solstice coincides with the strawberry moon.
