Tarrem attack mastermind Hidma, top Maoist commanders down with Covid-19: Telangana Police


Telangana police said Wednesday that Maoist leader Madvi Hidma, the alleged mastermind of the the Tarrem attack in Chhattisgarh who claimed the lives of 22 CRPF men became infected with Covid-19.

Bhadadri Kothagudem SP Sunil Dutt told India Today that police have credible information that Hidma and several other top commanders active in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region are infected with Covid-19 and are doing badly.

Katta Ramchandra Reddy alias Vikalp, DKSZC member and spokeswoman, Mula Devender Reddy alias Masa Dada, DKSZCM, Kunkati Venkataiah alias Vikas, South Bastar DVC Secretary, Nadu Tech Team BN-1, Sonu Coy-2 Commander and Hidma Coy-1 Commander are infected with the coronavirus, “said SP Sunil Dutt.

Hidma, commander of Battalion 1 of the Guerrilla Liberation Army (PLGA), has orchestrated and led several attacks on security personnel and political leaders in the past. He carries a reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head from the Chhattisgarh government and Rs 20 lakh from other states and authorities.

At least two top PLGA commanders, Sobrai and Nandu, succumbed to Covid-19. Nandu’s body was found by Kothagudem police, while Sobrai was arrested by Warangal police and died while being treated at a Hyderabad hospital.

On Monday, the State Secretary of the banned Maoist organization Telangana and its top member of the Central Committee died of Covid-19 in a village in Sukma, confirmed SP Sunil Dutt.

Telangana police also stated that up to 12 other senior Maoist leaders, including Central Committee members Katakam Sudharshan aka Anand and Tippari Thirupathi aka Devuji, are showing severe symptoms of Covid. The police appealed to the Maoists and offered them treatment in the best hospitals.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dantewada police in Chhattisgarh said they had received information that Haribhushan, the secretary of the North Telangana State Committee, had died of a heart attack caused by a Covid infection.

Haribhushan aka Yapa Narayan, a native of Mariguda Village in the Mahabubabad District of Telangana, joined the People’s War Guerilla in 1995. As a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) he had a reward of Rs 40 lakh on his head.
