Top LeT commander, Pakistani terrorist killed in J&K’s Parimpora encounter

A senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and a Pakistani terrorist were gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Parimpora area in Srinagar, police said. Several incriminating materials, including two AK-47 rifles and ammunition, were seized from the site.

LeT commander Nadeem Abrar was involved in multiple killings of security forces and civilians, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, adding that the Pakistani terrorist who was killed in the encounter was Abrar’s associate.

According to Jammu and Kashmiri police, there was a specific report about terrorists attacking a highway. Given the seriousness of the input, some joint nakas from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were set up along the highway.

A vehicle was stopped in Parimpora naka and asked for its identity. The person in the back seat tried to open his bag and pulled out a grenade. Security guards quickly intervened and grabbed the person in the back seat, police added. Both the driver and the person in the back seat were taken to a police station. It was later revealed that the person who took off his mask was the LeT’s commander, Nadeem Abrar.

Abrar was then interrogated jointly by the JKP, CRPF and the army. A pistol and hand grenades were recovered from his possession. During ongoing interrogation, he revealed that he had kept his AK-47 rifle in a house in Maloora. He was then taken to the house to retrieve the gun, police said.

When the party entered the house to retrieve the weapon, his Pakistani terrorist partner, about whom Abrar did not reveal anything and who was hiding in the house, shot at the party.

In the first firefight three CRPF employees were injured and Abrar accompanying the search party was hit. The injured were evacuated, the rest of the group took a position and, according to the police, called reinforcements.

The cordon of the target house was reinforced by the Jammu and Kashmir police, the CRPF and the army, and the fire was further repulsed. In the subsequent shots, the Pakistani terrorist who shot from inside the house was neutralized and Abrar was also killed.

A deputy commander, a sub-inspector and a police officer were among the three CRPF employees injured in the encounter. The deputy commander was transferred to an army hospital with life-threatening injuries.
