Trinamool Congress reshuffle: MP Abhishek Banerjee made national general secretary


The TMC on Saturday elevated MP Abhishek Banerjee to national secretary general and named actor and politician Saayoni Ghosh to head the party’s youth wing.

In a major organizational reshuffle, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) appointed MP Abhishek Banerjee as the party’s national secretary general on Saturday. Lok Sabha MP of Diamond Harbor, Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

The decision was made at the first meeting of the TMC Working Committee after the party’s landslide victory in the recently concluded Election to the West Bengal Assembly. During this meeting, the TMC endorsed the “one person, one post” strategy.

In a press conference, West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee told the media: “The party today endorsed a one-person-one-post policy”.

As a result, Abhishek Banerjee will resign as the person in charge of the TMC youth wing. This position will now be filled by the actor and politician Saayoni Ghosh.

TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been named president of the Mahila Morcha party, while MP Dola Sen is now the national president of the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC).

In the meantime, party veteran Purnendu Bose has been appointed president of the TMC’s peasant wing.

First-time MLA and former film director Raj Chakraborty has been appointed head of the TMC’s cultural cell.
