Hours after the Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Twitter banned him Twitter accessed its own account for almost an hour on Friday, confirming that it restricted the minister.

In a statement, Twitter said, “We can confirm that the Minister’s account access has only been temporarily restricted due to a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notice and the aforementioned tweet has been withheld.”

To explain the reasons for Ravi Shankar Prasad’s restriction, Twitter said, “In accordance with our Copyright Policy, we respond to valid copyright complaints sent to us by a copyright owner or their authorized agents.”

WHAT’S UP IN THIS MATTER?

On Friday, Twitter temporarily blocked the account of IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for allegedly violating US copyright law. Prasad said the action was arbitrary and a gross violation of India’s IT rules.

On Twitter, Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a series of posts on Koo: “Friends! Something very strange happened today. Twitter denied access to my account for almost an hour on the grounds that there had been a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the USA and then gave me access to the account. “

He added that Twitter’s action was grossly against IT rules as the platform failed to deny access to his account beforehand.

Ravi Shankar Prasad’s account was then unblocked after receiving a warning.

Prasad told Twitter that it was obvious that his statements, which denounced the self-importance and arbitrariness of Twitter, in particular the sharing of interview clips with television stations and the strong impact, “clearly have their feathers disheveled”.
