Woman calls off wedding after groom, his friends turn up drunk; ‘baraatis’ held hostage


A woman in the town of Pratapgarh in the Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh canceled her wedding after the groom and friends showed up at the venue drunk. The woman’s family then held the groom and the “baraatis” captive until they agreed to return the gifts.

A 22-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj canceled her wedding after the groom and friends showed up drunk on site.

When the woman canceled the wedding, her family held the groom and the “baraatis” hostage and asked them to return the gifts they received at the wedding.

The groom’s family also called the police and asked them to mediate because the woman refused to move.

The incident took place in Tikri Village, Pratapgarh City, Prayagraj during the wedding ceremony. A farmer in Tikri village had arranged for his daughter to marry a Ravindra Patel.

On the wedding day, the groom and some of his friends arrived at the venue drunk.

The woman and her family repeatedly ignored the advances made by the groom and his friends. The situation took a turn when the groom forced the bride to dance before the “jaimala” ceremony.

The woman refused to dance, which apparently upset the groom and caused an uproar. Annoyed by his behavior, the woman canceled the wedding and her family held the groom and his family captive.

The police arrived at the scene to clarify the matter. The woman refused to marry the man. The matter was resolved when the groom’s family agreed to return the cash and other items to the woman’s family.
