New Zealand’s formidable fast bowler Kyle Jamieson positioned India’s captain Virat Kohli perfectly to pick up the star batsman for 44 early on day three of the World Test Championship final in Southampton. The big, fast bowler was stingy on Saturday and he was in top form in a gripping fight against Kohli.
Virat Kohli let the balls go well during his 132-ball-44-run knock. The India Skipper was ready to drag it down even if he couldn’t move the scoreboard at the pace. Kohli showed excellent control on Saturday and there were very few misses.
WTC Finals, India vs. New Zealand, Day 3: Live Updates
When the game started 30 minutes late at the Ageas Bowl on a cloudy Sunday morning, Kohli looked good for a grand entrance. He was tight again in defense and left the balls well outside his stump.
However, it was his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Jamieson who was likely to crowd out the dodgy start. With the first delivery of his magic spell on Sunday, the form-strong pacemaker worried Kohli when the India skipper almost let the ball roll onto the tree stumps.
Then he continued bowling a few out swingers, which Kohli comfortably left. However, he brought one back and caught Kohli LBW. When Jamieson appealed, umpire Michael Gough took his time before raising the dreaded finger. Kohli took the review but the reps showed 3 red ones.

Jamieson and New Zealand seem to understand that Kohli left the balls way out of his stump and pinched you again at the right time. In fact, before the game began, batsman Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that Kohli was at his best, leaving balls in the corridor of uncertainty.
“To be honest, it was a master class how to get off the ball and how to play. In England, given the conditions, it is also important how you get off the ball,” Gavaskar said. New Zealand, it seems, has worked its way through well.
When Jamieson refused Kohli’s offer to shoot him at the RCB
Indeed, Kyle Jamieson had refused to bowl to Virat Kohli with the Dukes Ball during her stint at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Kohli had asked Jamieson if he wanted a bowl on him with the Dukes Ball (which Jamieson had taken to the IPL), and the New Zealand pacemaker seems to have turned down his captain’s offer with a cheeky remark.
Her RCB teammate Dan Christian revealed a fun and thoughtful conversation between the two cricketers in the first week of the 2021 IPL, which was suspended in May due to Covid-19 concerns, on a chat show with The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel .
“Actually quite reluctant from Virat the first week we were here. The three of us were behind the nets and these two were talking about test cricket.
“Virat said, ‘So Jamie (Kyle Jamieson) did you bow a lot with the Dukes Ball?’ and they talk about this stuff.
“Jamie says, ‘Yeah, I have a couple of them here, I’ll have a bowl before I go there’ and Virat says, ‘Oh, if you want a bowl against me in the nets I’m more” than happy to face’.
“Jamie said, ‘No chance I’ll attack you!’
“He would have looked at his release point and everything he does with the Dukes Ball.”
Jamieson has been a high profile addition to the New Zealand squad since debuting in 2020. He also removed Rishabh Pant for 4 shortly after getting Kohi to defeat India on Day 3. Jamieson has won 42 wickets in just 8 games, most from a New Zealand pacemaker in their first 8 tests.
